"It" is crazy! Just mention internet.

Jack, speak of the devil:

-----------------------

ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 1998--Ascend Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:ASND) will launch its new on-line service, "Ascend Express" (www.ascend.com), effective June 1, featuring a wide spectrum of networking products for purchase by the public across the globe.

The announcement was made Monday by Mory Ejabat, president of Ascend Communications.

Scheduled to be open for commerce 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, "Ascend Express" will feature thousands of networking titles through its on-line shopping service at value prices.

The new user-friendly service significantly expands Ascend's global marketing outreach and places it in the sector with other comparable on-line networking services.

"Ascend Express's" strategy for Web site traffic will rely heavily on newly developed direct-to-the-consumer marketing methods as opposed to the more traditional search engine relationships being exploited by its competitors.

A leader in the direct marketing arena for more than 10 years, Ascend has been a pioneer in developing direct to the consumer marketing techniques.

Ascend will also rely heavily upon its worldwide television expenditures to drive traffic to the site and gain marketshare. Through "Ascend Express," the international developer, marketer and distributor of entertainment products believes it will quickly gain marketshare in the rapidly growing electronic commerce industry.

Dave Misunas, vice president of Ascend On-line, commented, "We intend to bring on-line commerce to a new level by combining our rich history and sophistication in direct marketing expertise with the state-of-the-art technology and enhanced order capabilities.

"We also have exceptional expertise in fine-tuned database management, which will create an additional stream of revenue from this new electronic commerce venture."

During the next several months, Ascend will leverage this new networking marketing service by aggressively expanding "Ascend Express" into such international marketplaces in which it already has strong direct marketing operations, including the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland.

Ascend Communications is a vertically integrated developer, marketer and distributor of a wide array of networking products worldwide. The company markets its product lines to retailers, wholesalers, licensees or directly to the consumer through its global direct response operations. Ascend has companies/operations in the United States and overseas.

(Jack, I made this up. I took the K-Tel press release and did a few search/replaces. Maybe ASND will increase 700% over the next week, too.)

CNBC did a big story at lunch time saying that the K-tel thing was a classic short problem. That the shorts could not find the shares to behind their short position and it was settlement day for a lot of those shorts.

I won't do it, but it sounded to me like the time to short K-tel was today and not 3 days ago. I'll be happy if Ascend does a slow steady rise, won't you?

There I got Ascend in the body of my test, so I don't have to mark it OT.

Ah, how's my english boss, Dennis
