I am not a blind follower of Cooper's Book, I like to use his software with Supercharts to flag good momentum plays. On losing positions, I sell 1/2 of the position at -%5, this reduces the problem by 1/2, and I sell the other half if it goes down another 10%.
I will reinvest only if the stock shows up again on a scan, this keeps the system mechanical.
While it certainly is not the Holy Grail, it helps throttle my emotions, and forces me to keep profitable positions and sell losers.
I sell 1/2 of a position when it goes up 10%, and the other 1/2 when it goes up 20%, (or about!!)
