EUROPEAN DIGITAL CAMERA MARKET SET FOR GROWTH

Almost half a million digital cameras will be sold on the
European market in 1998, according to a new report from Surrey,
England headquartered research company, Macarthur Stroud
International. The firm also reported that the European market
doubled in size in 1997. But the number of suppliers of digital
cameras (and related applications and peripherals) will drop as
competition becomes increasingly fierce and the market
rationalizes. This growth is against a background of worldwide
boom in digital camera sales, with Lyra Research Inc predicting
the global market for digital cameras alone will be worth $4bn
by 2001 (CI No 3,389).
