I don't know if this report is going to warrant a box of chocolates; it's not too sweet. I may be criticized for dropping by Advanced Optics' facilities without an appointment, but I've done that before. It doesn't get you a royal tour but I've always been politely received and given some kind of tour and someone to speak with after introducing myself as a shareholder. At ADOT, I spoke with Leslie Robbins who received me with open hostility, suspicion and a closed-door, stone-wall policy. I believe if I had called I might not have been treated as rudely as I was, but I seriously doubt Robbins would have been any more forthcoming with information. His most common response was, "I don't have to tell you that." The facilities are located in a nondescript little compound on a dead-end dirt road by the freeway in far north Alb, next to a biker bar (there were at least 20 hogs out front). There was alot of housing construction going on all around this area, but no other industry. Aside from the little brick office in which I spoke with Robbins, there were a few other larger buildings behind a chain link fence, but I saw no activity back there. There were two cars in the parking lot besides mine. This was at about 2pm, Monday afternoon. A friendly enough secretary greeted me, and when I told her my mission she went in the back and came back with Robbins. "What do you want," were Robbins' first words. I explained I was a small shareholder, and I was passing through town, and I was hoping I could see the billboards they were working on as I was real curious about them and I knew some other shareholders who were eager to hear about my visit. "I'm not going to show them to you," he said, "I don't have to show them to you." "Do you have a model, or a drawing I could see," I asked. "I don't have to show you anything. Why did you come here." He stood in front of the door to the back room as if he would block me if I tried to run past him. The conversation went like that for maybe10 minutes, never getting any friendlier. Here are the absolute only bits of information I was able to get from Robbins: - There are 11 full and part-time employees. - They will be fully reporting by Memorial Day. - The deal with PLZTECH was a reverse takeover, and PLZTECH is now majority shareholder of ADOT. Here are some sample tidbits of the rest of our conversation: "Unless you own 5% of the company, I don't have to tell you anything. Do you own 5% of the company?" When I said of course not he said, "Well then I guess I don't have to tell you anything then, do I?" He said, "Anything we want the shareholders to know, we already put out in our press releases. When we want you to know more, we'll put out another press release." I asked if there would be a press release soon and he said, " You'll know we put one out when we put it out. It will be on our website." I asked about Biomoda and he told me he wouldn't tell me anything about Biomoda, to read the press releases. I told him that I had and that a recent one had said they were going to increase their holdings in Biomoda and he said, "Did it say when, did it say when we're going to increase our holdings," and when I said that no it didn't he said, "Well there you go." I told him that I was on the internet and that there was a lot of positive discussion on a few bulletin boards about Advanced Optics' stock and its prospects and he told me that no-one tells the truth on the internet, that everyone is phony on the internet. Then he said, "Maybe you should get back on the internet and find someone to buy your shares from you." There were some other choice quotes, but I'm sure everyone gets the idea. None of this necessarily reflects on the future of ADOT, but I certainly did not see or hear a single thing to sustain any of my previous enthusiasm. I had truly hoped I was going to see a real nifty flat panel display bill board, but instead I spoke with the most unpleasant man I've met in a long, long while. Even if it was out of line for me to drop by without an appointment, the level of Robbins' incivility was uncalled for, and I can not help but feel that he was as adamant as he was that I not see anything because there was nothing there for me to see, but that of course is my opinion. The rest is a true and factual account of my visit to Advanced Optics; I imagine it's as disappointing for everyone here to read as it is for me to write, but there it is. It's up to you to determine if this is deserving of that chocolate, Fred, though I wouldn't mind something to get a certain bad taste out of my mouth. Otherwise, I had a good trip. I had a very nice lunch with my hippie niece and her beautiful new baby near the UNM campus on my way to ADOT, and had a great dinner and evening with some old friends in Santa Fe afterwards. The drive both ways was most pleasant. From the sunny Southwest, Richard
