Happy Birthday Corel Threadsters. 4/21/97 - 4/21/98

A few of my personal favorites from the first posts to this thread ( when Corel was down to about $5.50 U.S.) We sure have come a long way since those dark days haven't we?

From A.H:.After the stock performance of the last few trading days, one starts to wonder at the merits of Corel as an investment.

From Alex :Jambo, I don't think there is much further downside at this level -
if at all. The short-termers have thrown in the towel already.

From Alomex: When Corel comes out with a $100 million loss for the WP write off, people are going to sell it like crazy.
#reply-1294195

From John ( Where is he now? )Can we stop slinging the mud here and stick to some fair and balanced discussion please?
#reply-1297846

From Kari:...spent more time concentrating on his job and less time on his next female..
#reply-1327541

From bcoch:...sent a message to John Hladkowicz re share price drop...
#reply-1352892

From Robert:This thread is marred by zealots ready to pounce on anyone daring to
question the tenets of the one true church, Corel.

Thanks for your and other's responses. I can certainly understand your frustration given your history as investor in this company. Not to be picky but I suspect "mental illness" is not the issue, not at least in a clincal or truly explanatory sense. More likely we're talking personality issues, whether style or disorder. Is he, by the way, a technology wonk who can't not pursue speculative product possibilities (whilst lacking all business sense and/or bottom line focus? He seems to enjoy himself, like himself very much and to be generally imperturbable. Notwithstanding the shareholders, he has made sure that he himself is well taken care of and appears very thick skinned as to how he is perceived. His new political hack/bag-people, board members, Barbara McDougall and Bill Davis, are quite telling choices. He wants to be surrounded by high profile people as long as they are incapable of proving meaningful business input or challenging him in any way.

I want to figure this man (and company) out. I think understanding him is critical to understanding an investment in his company. I'd love to hear more (hopefully) objective observations and perceptions. I'm also wondering if in the short to medium term it isn't possible this company could do well despite its leadership? If you folk don't see a bright side, why aren't you cutting your losses and going home?
