Brazil's Cardoso loses forceful friend and ally

By Adrian Dickson

SAO PAULO, April 20 (Reuters) - Brazil's economic reform drive suffered a severe blow late on Sunday with the death of Communications Minister Sergio Motta, the most forceful voice in President Fernando Henrique Cardoso's administration.
<snip>
Some of those outbursts resulted in public embarrassment for Cardoso, such as the time Motta told a group of deputies the president was so tough his testicles were jet black.
<snip>
Motta's parting message to Cardoso was in the form of a fax which he sent from his deathbed and which the president read to reporters on Monday. ''Don't ever let them bring you down. You must fulfill your historic destiny. You must lead our country's transformation,'' it said.
