Joe, Perhaps this varies depending on the brokerage. My account has been a margin account from day one, and all of my DCTC was already in my cash account when I had DLJ check on the status today. With DLJ, when you place an order online for a BB stock you have to click on either the button at the bottom called "cash" or "margin" to complete the trade. If you click on "margin" the order on BB securities has in my experience always been rejected, so it appears to me that it is only possible to buy DCTC through DLJ via a cash account. DLJ also told me that there was no way I would be allowed to short DCTC BTW...drats and I really wanted to establish about a 50K short at about 1 3/8! (not!) Sure would be nice to find out that Mr. X would not be able to borrow any shares of DCTC at all out of the US. (G)
