once again it seems to come down to the fact that long time posters have, like it or not, the responsibility to carry the burden of their assumed credibility.

While I agree with the underlying note of caution you raise, I believe there's a fundamental distinction that has to be made in the case of the investor who placed a market order for Broadcom on the IPO. If I believed in a company I could easily say I thought the IPO was worth buying. At the same time I wouldn't feel compelled to say someone shouldn't place a market order. That goes without saying. There are certain basic tenets of investing we all take for granted and no one posting should feel compelled to repeat them.

We've all made mistakes of one kind or another and chalk them up to the price of our education. As harsh as it may sound, many of our best lessons are ones we've learned the hard way. I believe the Motley Fool has a forum called "The Worst Investment Mistake I Ever Made." Otherwise known as the Wailing Wall.

You say we should all be responsible for our credibility and I agree. However, imparting basic investing skills is not part of that responsibility.

I don't expect a car salesman to tell me about traffic lights, a restaurant owner to teach me about knives, or a yacht broker to make sure I can swim. Some things we have to take for granted and not placing market orders on an IPO is high on that list.

Just my take.
