A data mold of microscopic grooves is stamped onto a penny-sized polymer. The
data bits are 10 nanometers wide and 40 nanometers apart.
A tiny vibrating silicon needle is used to read data. As the needle gets closer to the
surface the atomic interaction changes the vibrating frequency of the needle. By
interpreting the change a computer can read the surface of the disc. An actual player
still needs to be built. Professor Chou's penny-sized CD could hold 5 hours worth

Sounds like a record player to me. Lots of issues with flatness
of disk, particulates etc. A good idea in theory maybe, but in
practise?
