rg, being right doesn't make one a fool. it makes everyone else a fool and everyone else has more money ;-) fools do well during manias. by definition, manias must be fools. rational people do not participate in silly manias.

you are 100% correct. those that were right at $34 are hurting puppies right now. however, so are those that bought iom at $55 and saw it go to the low teens.

this game is about risk. i would never short amzn b/c of precisely what you say. i would buy puts knowing that 100% position loss was acceptable given the continuation of the mania. i'm actually considering 12-24 month leaps b/c the fools have much more money than i do ;-)

there are risk reduction strategies.
