Dave:: What are you doing up at this hour? (Are you compulsive or just nuts like me?)

It depends on the stock. Real Tick III can be set to ignore the ECs like ARCA, ISLD and the like and just look at the MMs. The most active MMs in a stock will come inside just before the market makes its move. Sometimes they will sweep in on the inside ask and gobble up the up prints going through at the ask for 10 seconds or so. Then they will move down by wiping out the best bid. What they are doing is selling short because they have a client with a market sell order. Then they sell their inventory to the client at the lower bid price and make a level. Goldman Sachs is a good one to watch (GSCO).
