James,

Blue-chip stocks fell Monday, bowing to profit-taking...

Every time I hear this phrase tossed out in order to rationalize a market sell-off, I always think of its opposite, which, though no less silly, sounds a bit odd because we haven't heard it continuously regurgitated by the financial press:

"Blue-chip stocks rose Monday, responding to loss-giving..." :o)

Come to think of it, what with the beating the shorts have been taking lately, the latter statement actually makes more sense!

Regards,
