Kerry, yeah, but someone had to do the deal. Someone had to consciously decide WHEN and WHERE the MU shares would be valued and HOW this transaction would be done. It's not like Appleton suddenly woke up one morning, had too much coffee, the idea just hit hit out of the blue, he picked up the phone, called someone and said "yeah, let's buy out the remaining minority interest in MQD" and by the end of the day it was done. If you were a holder of the minority interest and you got the MU shares near their peak, right now you're down. If you got them near the bottom, you're up. But who's you? Who actually held the minority interests? Another corporation? MU insiders? Employees? All three? I think it would be interesting to find out if MU somehow did this transaction near the peak as opposed to the bottom because these guys seem have an amazing sense of timing. Anyone remember the insiders who sold out back in August of 1997? Amazing that they just happened to sell right before their stock went on a joyride up to 60 followed by a hellride down to 22. Anyone notice a small insider buy in early January of 1998, right before everyone (other than GS) started upgrading them? Why would the company bury this in a 10-Q? You could argue that it's not important, but bear in mind that we're dealing with a company that puts out press releases to announce expansion of internet services to parts of Washington State and Idaho. Yet when it comes to an acquisition larger than its net in its last profitable quarter, you have to sift through a mandatory SEC filing? Didn't SBN run a ridiculous headline the weekend before they reported in Sept. of 1997? Something like "Micron to Take on Intel in Flash"? And yet, isn't that what this subsid. does? Flash? So why wouldn't you trumpet it? Say "hey look, we are serious about growing our flash business...etc.". It's so obvious, that IMHO not doing it looks weird. Good trading, Tom
