Informix Announces Record BAAN IVc Benchmark Results; Breakthrough Performance Reinforces Informix Leadership With Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1998--Informix(R) Corporation, (NASDAQ:IFMX), the leader in innovative database technology, today announced a record-setting total of 7,503 BRU (Baan Reference Users) in a client/server benchmark on BAAN IVc.

The results were the first ever published for Baan on the Hewlett Packard 64 bit operating system (HP-UX 11.0) running on a 64 bit RDBMS. These results reinforce Informix's technology leadership in the Enterprise Resource Planning marketplace.

"Customers demand the ability to support larger number of users as their supply chains grow," said Jim Tillinghast, executive director for Global VARs at Informix. "We're excited about the benchmark results because they clearly demonstrate Informix's capability to support users across the supply chain up to the largest enterprises with near linear scalability."

The record BAAN IVc benchmark was performed with engineers from Informix, Baan and HP and was completed utilizing Informix Dynamic Server(TM) 7.24 on a 16-way HP 9000 V2250 Enterprise Server with 16 gigabytes of memory running EMC 3430 enterprise storage devices. The benchmark, which was achieved at HP headquarters in Cupertino, resulted in a 15% increase over the previous record held by Oracle.

"The teamwork from all three companies enabled us to achieve this industry-breakthrough benchmark result," said Wes Raffel, vice president of North American Field Operations and Global Partners at Informix . "This benchmark demonstrates a joint commitment from Informix, Baan and HP to customers that rely on Enterprise Resource Planning systems to maintain competitive advantage."
