Company Reports Second Quarter Fully Diluted EPS Of 27 Cents On 166% Increase In Net Income And 133% Sales Growth

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Analytical Surveys Inc., (ASI) (Nasdaq: ANLT - news), one of the world's leading providers of computerized mapping and database services for use in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), today reported record results for its second quarter and six-month period ended March 31, 1998. The announcement marked the 18th consecutive quarter ASI has announced record financial results.

Net income in the second quarter advanced 166% to $1.8 million, or 27 cents per share fully diluted, compared with net income of $677,000, or 13 cents per share fully diluted, in the same period a year ago. Sales increased 133% to $20.0 million versus sales of $8.6 million in last year's second quarter.

Through six months, net income advanced 167% to $3.4 million, or 50 cents per share fully diluted, versus net income of $1.3 million, or 24 cents per share fully diluted, last year. Sales increased 131% to $37.4 million from $16.2 million at the six-month mark a year ago.

ASI also announced it received $28 million in second-quarter contracts, a new single-quarter contract record that has pushed ASI's backlog to an all- time high of $99 million. The contracts came both from new customers and previous ASI clients. Included in the contracts were major orders placed by Johnson County, Kansas; Mahoning County, Ohio, and the Grand Valley Metropolitan Council of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

''The second quarter was an exciting period for ASI, as our financial results, contract volume and backlog continued to reflect our internal and external growth programs,'' said Sidney V. Corder,
chairman and CEO. ''The worldwide market for digital mapping services is growing, and as the GIS industry's dominant provider of data conversion services, we are clearly reaping the benefits of this
expansion.''
