Like you said, I'll bite.

To paraphrase an old joke from Ghostbusters, Yes it's true, Reggie, you bite.

I wouldn't bet the house on that. I am still reeling form the fact that the DOJ didn't even bother to see if IE and Winows were truly separable before they bothered to file a motion to the contrary. After that stunt, anything is possible.

IE, so modular, it's integrated! Or, so integrated, it's modular! The duality of man strikes again. Once again, time to go back to my favorite piece from the weekend, infoworld.com

Popular Idea No. 3: Microsoft should be free to decide what is part of the operating system. If Microsoft had waited, merging Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer into a single Windows 98 utility, I doubt Justice or anyone else would have taken action.

Internet Explorer isn't part of Windows 95, though, any more than it's part of the other operating systems you can get it for. Proof: As astute observers have pointed out, Microsoft categorizes Internet Explorer under business software on its Web site. You won't find it listed under operating systems.

Microsoft bundled some OS kernel updates and some Internet Explorer functions into the same DLLs. That's all.

Mr. Lewis uses the euphemism "popular idea" where I would say "company line"; I think "popular idea" is a little dubious in light of the recent PR-Gates thing. Of course, "grass roots" Reggie would disagree. Anyway, Lewis's concise little summary sure is handy.

Cheers, Dan.
