I hope you will provide an alternative scenario in as much detail.
Please concentrate on the Valley, where most of us work. Bringing the rest of the country into it is hardly to the point. These people are not coming in to lower the wages of loggers and truck drivers. They are coming to the Valley, in large part, to provide cheap programming and similar work. If you can't do that, would you like to pin down the figures for actual employment and unemployment a little?

While we're at it, I'd like to point out the the very skilled people that folks think are on H1Bs mostly qualify for immigration, and don't need H1bs or get off that classification pretty quickly. I have some close friends in a group of French programmers who were about average for Valley programming skills, most of them got green cards, and several are becoming citizens. The PhDs don't even have to ask - approval is almost automatic for anyone who makes a serious effort to get permanent residency from most countries.
