Brad,

One other piece of info that may be useful in figuring out what went wrong is that I could enter as a non-member even while I couldn't get in as a member. I could read all the threads, but if I tried to log-in or do anything requiring membership it timed out.

Traceroute and ping to talk.techstocks.com were both fine (unusually good, in fact).

Hope this helps,

Peter

I was hanging online
and got fritzed. I was staying on so I was interested in what happened. The site stayed working through www.techstocks.com, just couldn't log on.

Sure it wasn't that KTEL thread he says with a grin. You did notice that 666 thing there, you weren't using SATAN to test things again were you.

Well, like all other SI addicts, I am elated that things are back to normal. I almost had to do something productive around the house - like clean orwhatever she was talking about.<g>

BTW Brad; I was able to view the total of people who had me bookmarked (I really hadn't thought that many people were watching me-ug!). But now I can't view it. I caught it earlier in stock talk. Is that correct, and have you moved or removed it?

>>I was sleeping at the time and my "SI monitoring" beeper was set to "vibrate"...it was dutifully buzzing around on the carpet while I blissfully slept.

You might want to consider maintaining the setting but keeping it in your front pocket so you can experience simultaneous pain and pleasure the next time trouble rears its head. <g>

My beeper is turned off and the bed is set to vibrate. To each their own.

Morning Brad; I'll keep this low volume as not to disturb your slumber!

This is just a passing thought, but i was wondering if you have any plans to permit us to 'clear new message count' on individual threads we have bookmarked instead of having to clear the whole lot of them. Thanks.

Any hope for fixed fonts on Private Messages???????

Has been, is, and will continue to be the best board on the net!!!

Brad: a tiny glitch to check out. The Cityscape Financial thread does not display quotes at the bottom, like other threads for specific companies.

I suspect it is because the symbol changed from CTYS to CTYSC a few months ago.

If I'm right, there may be other threads with the same problem, and you may want to consider a system for keeping threads linked to their quotes when symbols change.

Love SI!

Brad, congratulations to you, Jeff and Jill. You deserve the big payday for all of your hard work and dedication to your customers.

Don't forget a clause in the final agreement for "Webmaster For a Day" - I own a raincoat so Seattle won't be a problem!

$33 million! What a country! Congratulations on well-earned success.

Of course, that's denominated in tulip bulbs, but still....

Brad, the Stock Swap thread has also decided to cash in on the internet mania and we've decided to declare independence from SI and sell ourselves to another company for $1M. Surely GNet won't miss one little thread, right? (gg)

Hope you didn't unpack. ;^)

Brad, the Bloomberg version of your dealings (Congrats!):

Go2net to Acquire Silicon Investor for $33 Million in Stock

Seattle, April 23 (Bloomberg) -- Go2net Inc. said it will
buy closely held Silicon Investor, a Web site for small
investors, for about $33 million in stock to broaden its audience
and boost advertising revenue.

Go2net runs Web sites with a range of features from stock
information to games. Silicon Investor offers tips and hosts
financial discussion groups on market trends, initial public
offerings and mutual funds. Go2net will issue about 1.25 million
of its shares for Silicon Investor.

Personal finance sites are among the fastest growing on the
Internet as personal investors seek more information online.
Silicon Investor will give Go2net more than a million new users
to help lure advertisers.

The purchase ''positions us with a new revenue stream,''
said Go2net Chief Executive Russell Horowitz.

Silicon Investor is based in Overland Park, Kansas, and
employs three people. The company will become a wholly owned
subsidiary of go2net and will move to Seattle.

Go2net rose 1 1/8 to 27 3/4 in midday trading.

Here's a strange thought... now that SI is a publicly traded company, does that mean Brad can't divulge what neat stuff he's working on for fear of disseminating "inside information"?

Hello Brad, how will this new combined entity effect existing SI users?
Will you retain complete control of your baby or will you have to give up some control, over policy, pricing, policing, etc.? TIA DD
