You may be right about the funds feeling more comfortable with the sector. Earnings may be part of it though I think more may have to do with oil prices not declining precipitously and perhaps strengthening. Then there is that bunch of brokerage recommendations.
Bargain hunting may be back in vogue, which should help some of the companies that have been relatively weaker recently. I'm not sure that we've gotten enough momentum back into the stocks to keep them from dropping back on the first signs of oil price weakness, and we may see another round of selling the rally. But with oil prices reasonably firm and demand expected to pick up, it is starting to feel more like the drilling and service stocks will not be going back toward their lows and will more likely move up from here.
