Flash3 is definitely a step in the right direction. But based on the beta release IMHO it is not the end all web animation tool. Not yet.

I experienced some bugs ( the inability to import external files for an example. ) Also some of the interface issues fixed but there does remain afew that make full scale production somewhat awkward. I could actually go on with a list of my druthers but this is not the proper forum for that considering I would probably just ramble on. Having said all that the positives are bright.

The decission to "open up" the flash file formate is far reaching. Devleopers both minor and major can now utilize flash's fantastic qualities. This file format is currently the best ( IMHO ) to present low level interaction animated graphics. It's vector-based scalabitlty
and anti-aliasing is great. It is also small. *and it does have hooks to talk back and forth with javaScript.

But at this time a plug-in is needed to view a flash animation. And flash3 needs a new plug-in that is buggy. Until this changes most people will be frustrated trying to view a flash animation. To be a far reaching technology it has to be almost "stupid-easy". Anyway this is an area that the desicsion to "open-up" can fix. If Microsoft builds support of flash into it's activeX library and Netscape rolls it into their browser than we'll be set.

I like this product alot best thing from Macromedia since the upGrade from director 4.0 to director 5.0 ( once again an example of opening up the format )

cheers
