Company Press Release

IDT Begins Production of WinChip From Oregon Fab

Company Ships 200-, 225-MHz Processors From 8-Inch Facility

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1998--IDT announced today it has begun production shipments of the IDT WinChip(TM) microprocessor from its state-of-the-art, 8-inch wafer fabrication plant in Hillsboro, Ore. during its quarter ended March 29, 1998.

''We are pleased with the progress we are making in ramping the IDT WinChip processor at our Hillsboro plant,'' said Len Perham, president and CEO of IDT. ''Transitioning production to our Hillsboro fab allows us to significantly increase the rate at which we can ramp our production output during the next few quarters.''

During the first calendar quarter, IDT transitioned WinChip production from its research and development fab in San Jose to production in Oregon. Moving forward, the Hillsboro facility will generate 80 to 90 percent of WinChip processors produced by IDT. This volume will be complimented by additional capacity provided through a recently signed foundry agreement with IBM, which will begin production in the third or fourth calendar quarters.

IDT currently builds the IDT WinChip processor using its 0.35-micron CMOS process, and is in the process of transitioning to a 0.25-micron process during the next several months. The current IDT WinChip processor is an 88 mm2 die in the 0.35-micron process, and will be shrunk to a 58 mm2 die in the 0.25-micron process.

The company expects to have strong distribution of the IDT WinChip product to 225 MHz in the coming quarter, as the Hillsboro facility begins volume production. The ramp will help meet the strong demand from customers looking for a higher-performance alternative at a competitive price.

Redefining the Price/Performance Equation

The IDT WinChip processor is a superior price/performance processor for business applications. Its small die size and high performance are achieved by simplifying the architecture and eliminating, or reducing, complex logic found in other processors. The small die size translates to lower manufacturing costs and lower system prices. The IDT WinChip features competitive performance with other comparable processors based on benchmarks such as Winstone(R) 97 business running on Microsoft Windows 95(R).

Andrew

BTW-I could also kick myself with TBRDF since I was made aware of it at much lower prices but decided to pass until it got higher. I also exited early but at least it was a profitable trade.

BTW-II-I think IDTI was a situation of getting in too early but the pay off is about to come. This is a totally re-engineered company that is well prepared to move forward based on 8 previous quarters of gut wrenching pain. This is a very strong and vital company that has done what was necessary to succeed in the years to come.
