Konehead,

Sebl = 77.8 x 1998, 54x 1999 43% eps growth
VNTV = 45x 1998, 32x 1999 39% eps growth

1) I don't see the difference in long term growth rate.
2) Vantive hasn't had the benefit of any q1 adjustments yet

3) As you know, I still consider the massive integration challenges that sebl/scop have ahead to be a significant risk over the next three quarters. i think vantive's internally developed integrated approach will prove to be a competitive advantage over the next 12 months.

4) Tom has demonstrated his slick lack of professional approach many times before.

I don't know about the respective hold back/backlog at each company, but sebl's performance would be less impressive if their R&D spending was comparable.

TD

>>I think a lot of folks in this thread have an emotional attachment to Vantive (not that there is anything wrong with that).

For better or worse this emotion stems from a belief in and agreement with the management style. Tom has done a masterful marketing job and I congratulate the way he did it - go after a market with terrible competition, don't spend money on R&D to create EPS momentum that investors will pay up for and then use your inflated stock to buy technology and customers. It worked and I think it was genius. You live, you learn.
