Dave,
My bi-weekly update of PC prices in NY suburbs:
Compaq Presario: 300 MHz PII, 64MB, 8GB, DVD, 56KB, cheap 17" SVGA, cheap speakers, cheap color inkjet, cheap scanner: $1499 !

Even more amazing:
Compaq Presario: 400 MHz PII, 64MB, 12GB, DVD, 56KB, cheap 17" SVGA, cheap speakers, cheap color inkjet, cheap scanner: $2199 !!!

Note that the introductory price of the latest, high-end PC, is under $2000, without the monitor! So much for the "premium for high-end" systems that the DELL guys keep talking about.

My expectation is that the PC manufacturers are going to see an overall shrinkage in revenues this year. And I don't think DELL is going to be any exception.

- Brian.

Well Dave... i got back from a game of golf and wow! Dell's shot through the roof! I share your view... it is an irrational market... pc sales are hurting (sez IBM, CPQ, etc), boxes are easily manufactured to ad finitum, and yet the market seems to shrug off this fact. I'm lucky to have gotten rid of the short position on Fri... however, for those who are still short.. all I can say is that this market is crazy... irrational.. illogical... and one day this whole thing will shake out to logical reality.
