Off topic: I say the strong gold action today IS related to the market starting the realize the Euro will be more strongly gold backed than they had thought. I say the Dow trend will be broken very soon, as early as tomorrow. If it were not for IBM the Dow would have been down today. Oil is keeping it up. The game is coming to an end. Gold will be the order of the day and of course special situations like SIR and ERB.

Off Topic response to Chip.

I agree that there will be strong deflationary pressures as a significant part of international trade for the foreseeable future. This is however not a bold prediction <g> because it has been a major influence for much of the last decade. However I strongly feel this will continue.

Re the stock market as a whole, for some time I have expected the economy to soften somewhat in the second half. As part of this I expect a correction of the equities market. 30% is a bit more than I expect but I wouldn't be surprised. Over the last month I have gradually been reducing my exposure to the broad market. I still have about a 25% exposure and will reduce that further over the next month. The only equities I will hold will be special situations and defensive issues. I am also looking for one last dip in the bond market before I start agressively buying bonds for the second half.
