Technically speaking the fruit is the reproductive body of a plant which has seeds, whereas a vegetable is the vegetative portion (roots, leaves, stalk, etc)- so Rhubarb should be a vegetable and tomatoes and cucumbers fruit.

Fruit seeds will germinate after they go through your body.

So August, I am interested. Have you tried this theory with an avocado? I believe an avocado is a fruit, but personally have no need of your test to verify this.

Thanks, August, for suggesting fruit. Why didn't I think of that? You are absolutely right. I have baskets and bowls full of apples, oranges, pears and bananas all over my house, and yet I never agonize over these lost lives because they are the GIFTS of the trees and plants which bore them for my pleasure, but still live happily under the bright blue sky.

Did you attempt long-term fruitarianism in a cold climate? I can imagine it would not be a very good idea. However, in the warmer parts of California it is doable much of the year. I know everyone must be laughing already, but I am so weird I have raw foods cookbooks.

I, for one, would like to hear the results of your avocado seed experiment. Please keep me posted!!
