Peter; The trigger will be , a "surprise" of some sort..and the
nature of surprises is that very few people see them coming.

I think it likely best to consider what I will do if and when it
comes as a surprise. Say I wake up tomorrow and the whole system
is shut down, and we are informed it's not just broke
but completely bust, the dollar has lost 50% of it's value over
night..and the Government can not service its interest on
the national debt , then what do I do if not a stock I own is
worth the paper it's written on, and no one wants the American
dollar as payment for anything.

If you can live with that then don't be to concerned about the surprise, it will come some day..no one knows when. You and I may be dead and gone by then. A ponzi scam can't run forever, it will
spin out of control someday and most of the elite will flee the country to where they have stashed some reserves. And say it
serves us right. To predict it is a little nuts but to think it
can't happen is even more nuts. That leaves me with what will
I do if.
No one is ever any more secure than their closest friend,
and your best investment is in yourself and your family.

Peter,

<<In recent weeks, many companies came out earnings higher than estimates>>

I think that wall street has figured out (from watching stocks that missed estimates being taken out behind the shed and shot) , to guestimating a little low and getting a rally when the bad news comes out. It seems to have worked...
