Dell And ADIC Team Up to Supply High-Performance Tape Backup Solution

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1998--ADIC (Nasdaq:ADIC), the leading drive-independent provider of automated tape libraries, announced today that Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL) has selected a version of the ADIC FastStor seven-tape DLT storage system to offer as an OEM backup solution for the Dell line of server products.

"Demand for this class of tape storage device promises to be high," noted Fara Yale, director and principal analyst for Dataquest's Computer Storage Service. "The combination of ADIC's focus on automated backup for Windows NT and Dell's rapidly growing PC server sales should prove to be a win for everyone involved."

"Dell has a major effort in progress to offer customers enterprise-capable storage solutions across our server family, and unattended tape backup is a key component of this initiative," said Bob Van Steenberg, vice president of product and program management for Dell's Server Product Group. "The ADIC DLT autoloader product provides the reliability, performance and compact size required by our customers in these demanding environments."

ADIC's breakthrough FastStor technology provides random access to seven DLT tapes in a chassis small enough to sit on top of a server or to mount in just 7 vertical inches of rack space -- the same space normally required by standalone DLT drives. Equipped with a DLT4000 drive, the system offers 280GB capacity and 3MB/second data transfer (at normal 2:1 compression). With a DLT7000 drive, capacity increases to 490 GB and transfer speeds to 10MB/second. The system interface is compatible with leading backup software, including Seagate Software's Backup Exec and Computer Associates' ARCserve.

"We're extremely pleased to be working with Dell," said Bill Britts, ADIC vice president of sales and marketing. "Their relentless focus on meeting customer needs has propelled them to the top ranks of PC server suppliers. Our partnership with them will both help expand the channel for automated tape products and increase Dell's support for larger scale, automated data storage applications."
