Will amat buck the trend and hit 40 this time?
It would be nice, then maybe I think I will bail. You could almost be certain that amat will beat earnings again but as in the past, it probably won't help the stock much.

I don't think the asian crisis is getting any worse and as for japan, they are simply retooling there factories in asia to produce for the us and europe. (last issue of business week) That includes a new semiconductor plant in thailand by NEC. The spending cotinues.

I go out on a limb and say that amat will beat earnings and reach 45 by mid may.

Yes, this market is all hype, but driven by low inflation. Right now, the stock market is the only game in town if you want a decent return. The only way stocks are going to come down to historically acceptable valuation levels is if the fed raises rates, inflation starts to creep up in a significant manner, or some combination thereof. Until that time, I wouldn't be surprised to see an average PE on the S&P 500 of 35-40.
