Nobody in their right mind wants to deal with them.

I envy you. The problem occurs when one is in a business where one has to communicate via exchanging word-processing files with other people. I keep hoping Scott McNealy can take us to a point where we download a simple browser/OS/word processor and spreadsheet which is platform independent. And then Microsoft could stop destroying innovation and creativity in the information technology sector of our economy.

Best Regards,
Tom D

You know, you can always switch to the Mac. I don't want to veer too off topic, but I do want to point some things out:

1- Apple is alive and doing a whole lot better than the MS lapdog press would have you think.
2- Macintoshes are about double the price/performance of intel machines.
3- MacOS 8 is not as stable as NT, but it is as stable as Win95.
4- Office 98 isn't the greatest, but will allow you to easily co-exist with wintel coworkers.
5- The most Macintoshes I ever saw at one place was when I worked at Microsoft! Apparently, there was a whole division doing artwork (still and video) for their products and it was all Macs.

I'm a software developer. I develop windows programs and work in heavily windows environment. (I'm literally in redmond right now) At the same time, I have great experience with my powerbook 2400. Is my correspondence and email machine, plugs right into the windows network we have here, etc. etc. etc.

My point is not to say everyone should be using Macs, but that they are a lot more of a viable alternative than people generally percieve.
