I don't know what this article means with regard to Informix's future. What it does tell me is that the Informix PR and Marketing departments are vastly improved. The way the article is written it could make one believe that Informix is the sole reason that Brightpoint has grown over 85% since 1995.

Since choosing Informix technology, Brightpoint has experienced business growth in excess of 85%, and has expanded the system from the U.S. into Asia, Europe and Latin America, with plans to add online ordering and fulfillment centers in four regions.

This is a well thought out and put together press release. Much better than ones I have seen in the past.

The nervous part is that its a 3 year deal. This only makes me nervous because Informix impacted future revenues in the past by mortgaging the future with large pre-pays. Granted, this may not be a pre-pay deal.

I believe a big part of Oracles slow database sales growth is due to large and long term pre-pay deals.
