I think you forgot doing research (ie. publishing papers/articles/books) and getting grant money, in addition to the teaching of a class or two. Very rare is a college professor that excels in both (teaching & research). The teaching aspect of course evaluated from the students aspect. I think everybody has had college classes with boring lectures with material straight out of the book. Just because someone knows a lot about something, doesn't necessarily make them a great teacher (time/experience helps) Kurt

Mark <off topic>: As Al Capone once said...."Why are things funny? Things are funny when they make us laugh but to make us laugh they are often true." The part about George dying had no truth but your comments about my career do! You are right, it isn't very difficult. I could teach my classes and go home. Often I do. However, I also like to do public appearances related to my research and run my private practice. Some of my colleagues do teach a few hours then head to the golf-course. I hope to one day be in such a financial position to do that. Maybe my FAMH shares will help me do that sooner than I planned! Also, FWIW, I give two mid-terms and a final. That really keeps those lazy students on their toes! FORE!!!!!!, PsycProf
