I find it hard to believe that DOJ would allow Microsoft to buy a company like ADBE. Not that they aren't complementary--but ADBE is a leader in their fields, and it would just increase the perception of MSFT as a shark. No, THE shark. Such an acquisition would be bad timing, politically.

MSFT buying Quark makes some sense. Their latest upgrade was about 4 years in the making, and was still light on new features. Also, there were widespread reports of it causing frequent crashes, and the interface was clumsy. Many people bought it, used it for a couple of weeks, then reinstalled their old version, figuring that it wasn't worth it to switch. MSFT's style.

HP was one of the rumored suitors the last time that there was takeover speculation. Although HP's printers are the dominant force, their PCL printer language is a joke compared to Postscript and it's next generation PDF technology. If HP wanted to get more into the software business it could make sense.
