>> The server that QP uses I ma sure has all the data, but nobody in
sound mund would download all of them; first it will be forever,
second probably there is a limit on number of tickers that you can
download for free

Both wrong. The download takes under a minute, normally.
You don't have a choice about what you download; you always
get it all. Updating the database takes another 3-5 minutes
(on Pentium class machines). That updates all the stocks.

Name changes and splits are updated in the process.

There are approximately (I'm not looking) 12,000 symbols
involved.

I don't know where 80,000 comes from--there are no BB or
option symbols.

Check it out. You get 30 days free. Don't take my word
for it.

As a matter of fact, since my last post I downloaded todays
updates (26 seconds -- faster than usual) and updated the
database (2 minutes, 48 seconds, also a little faster).
9700 symbols were updated. This is a bit smaller than
normal, but not too unusual.

So, take it or leave it.

There are about 10,000 issues on the NY, AMEX and NASDAQ. That number includes preferreds, warrants, closed end funds, and unit trusts.

There are 4,000 to 5,000 OTC Bulletin Board issues.

There are about 7,500 open ended mutual funds.
