Ok, now we have one. How many others?

If all I needed to do was browse and answer low volume email, I'd probably be happy with a browser on one of Larry Ellisons imaginary NC's.

I'm not an engineer - I'm a consultant. I write complex reports and presentations using Windows tools. I have thousands of archived email messages detailing every communication on every project I've been involved in. My time tracking and accounting software is self contained, easy to use, and works on my laptop. I can telecommute from anywhere in the world; and setting up dial in access is a piece of cake (even if I didn't already know how to do it). Not unimportantly, the dozens of software packages that I use on a regular basis, including database servers and development tools, is relatively low cost when compared to the alternatives.

I couldn't live in a browser. Stripped down productivity apps are not likely to satisfy me. I wonder how many others fit this? Will my mother be happier with an NC? (maybe she would)

I'm not really looking for a deep philosophical discussion on "this vs that". When making investment decisions I like to consider all angles, and one of the angles I'm considering is that I do not thing the promise of Java and NC is delivering. Sure, there's some pretty interesting picks out there that are heavily capitalized by the market, and yes, I've made some coin on them, but I'm not long on any.

good luck all.
