Paul Wick, manager of the Seligman Communications and Information (Nasdaq:SLMCX - news) fund,
broke tech down into subgroups.

Anything that has inventory has been a rough ride: PCs, disk-drive makers and chips. Wick likes PC
peripherals like 3DFX Interactive (Nasdaq:TDFX - news) and Creative Technology (Nasdaq:CREAF -
news) , which makes the Sound Blaster sound card. Both should benefit from consumers' upgrading their
PCs with 3D graphics and better audio.

Then there's color copying. Xerox (NYSE:XRX - news) is a lower-risk play in the big-cap area, said Wick.
With its color copier, the company is taking market share from Canon. Two more plays on color copying:
Splash Technology Holdings (NYSE:SPL) and Electronics for Imaging (Nasdaq:EFII - news) , both
of which make products that link computers to color copiers.

Wick thinks turnaround story Gateway 2000's (NYSE:GTW - news) country stores will be a success
story.
