OUCH!!! Please, Swamp Fox, show a little compassion. I've been a long-suffering Phillies fan a lot longer than I've been a long-suffering Ampex shareholder...lets hope Big Ed has a little better luck than the "wild Thing"!!!

What a great deal! Not only does the cheap acquistion of this Irvine, California company broaden AXC's product offerings (thus improving its sell thru from highly-specialized, best-of-breed, expensive and proprietary solutions to a wider range of solutions), but it also puts AXC in a better position to exploit the market opportunities in video and storage that are going to cascade once the bandwidth bottlenecks in the networks ease up. I particularly like this part of the announcement:

...We continue to look at other acquisition opportunities that could be synergistic with Ampex and MicroNet....

In 1996, this product group produced 62.3% of the sales revenues for disk drive arrays and 93.5% of total unit shipments. Worldwide sales revenues for network/ midrange system arrays are projected to climb from 1996's $6.7 billion to $14.3 billion in 2000. While most of the disk drive arrays currently offered in the network/ midrange system market are designed for attachment to a server or processor host, a growing number of participating manufacturers are expected to add models designed for direct network attachment, making possible design simplification and lower cost...
