Trimble Launches FleetVision 3.0 LAS VEGAS, April 22, 1998 -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) launched its FleetVisionT 3.0 software -- a GPS fleet management solution based on WindowsT 95 and NT platforms -- at the International Wireless Communications Expo. Designed for use with Trimble's CrossCheckT AMPS cellular mobile unit and PlacerT family of mobile positioning sensor products, FleetVision is an economical mobile asset management tool that helps increase driver safety, cargo security and improve efficiency. "The introduction of FleetVision 3.0 represents Trimble's on-going commitment to developing user-friendly software for application developers, system integrators and end-users," said Tom Ellis, general manager of Trimble's Mobile Positioning and Communications Group. "Its versatility reflects the company's application knowledge which goes beyond hardware." As a seamless middleware architecture for mobile data base station applications, FleetVision is ideal for operation as a communications platform for Windows application developers and system integrators. The use of FleetVision's API allows developers to quickly write applications without having to worry about today's environment of multiple communications networks and emerging standards. As an alternative to its use as a development tool, FleetVision can also be operated as a stand-alone fleet management package. Supporting automatic vehicle location (AVL) activity and data communications management over a variety of wireless networks, FleetVision helps maximize efficiency of commercial fleets and enhance customer service. The software's multi-port communications controller is flexible, simultaneously supporting wireless network protocols such as MAP27 trunked radio, circuit switched Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) cellular, Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) and Transparent, with an upgrade for Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) standard support planned for the second quarter of 1998. In addition, FleetVision manages two-way data messaging and voice traffic between the base and mobile units. Developed using a distributed client-server architecture, FleetVision is easy to install and configure. The software includes features for fleet management and tracking applications such as user-definable event/alarm configuration and reporting, remote control of digital output lines, simultaneous real-time and replay of display maps, download and storage of logged vehicle data, and AVL position tracing features. For applications requiring more precise positioning, FleetVision supports the use of Trimble's Inverted DifferentialT Base Station software. The software also supports Trimble's ASCII Interface Protocol (TAIP). FleetVision 3.0 is anticipated to be available in May through Trimble distributors and resellers. Upgrades from previous FleetVision versions are also available.
