Sam the stock may certainly do a recovery but see how Briefing has changed its tune on its techstocks page from the earlier release:

----

Borland reported a gain of $0.03, one to two cents below estimates though much better
than year-ago loss of $0.52... Continues to show strength in its enterprise business...
Stock which had rallied into the report unlikely to move much in response to the actual
results.

----

Now we came in below estimates!

My feeling is that BORL did indeed miss. There is no way that the analysts or BORL knew what bad things Japan brought to the party this q. Therefore my feeling is that they based their estimates on around the 50 million and hence the earnings were a miss. Unfortunate for us but that is the truth as I see it. No 2 ways to cut it. Perhaps it was a 1 c miss.

However, in my mind, it's an "exogenous"/"extenuating" factor that is not a part of the "turnaround" or "transformation" effort so I won't worry myself too much about it. What the market thinks about it we'll see tomorrow.

----

Also I'm not so sure I would evaluate BORL's price movement over the rest of the year based on Wed. afternoon's trading pattern. Perhaps Wed. will dictate the movement over the next 6-10 weeks (about the time for the next earnings release) but tough for me to see that the Wed. pattern will dictate what happens over the next 8 months!

We also have MSFT earnings tomorrow though it will likely be ignored from BORL's standpoint. I suspect there will be many more pieces of information throughout the rest of this year that will cause the stock to go up or down. I'm hoping that as the year goes on we'll be seeing more ups than downs.
