Two earnings comments and a trading question:

(1) I'm extremely impressed by the .86 figure. I have not been following game companies for long, but don't recall much precedent for Q1 revenues actually _exceeding_ Christmas quarter revenues absent extraordinary circumstances. In this case, the demand for the new WCW titles has been remarkable. Concerning this:

(2) I think it's actually in THQ's interest to fan the flames for WCW titles demand as much as possible during 1H '98. The potential market for these games is not infinite, and THQ gets the benefits pertaining to them through all of '98 and much of whatever remains through 1H '99. Thus why not do what one can to suck this well of cash dry during that period? Even if the demand for wrestling games generally remains this big through '99, by that time THQ will presumedly want to release a substantially souped-up wrestling title(s) to do this--perhaps with help from GameFX's 3D experts. All they'll be lacking is the WCW trappings for new games released in '99. Others can judge much better than I how significant this fact is (I don't play the games, have kids that do, or understand the wrestling subculture all that well), but I'm hard pressed to see how Farrell and their newly augmented design team can't find ways to compensate.

Comments?

Question: Ever since 1 hour before the bell, THQ has been trading at 30, even as the bid has been at 32 or better, and the ask has been _lower_ at 30-31. This seems bizzare. Can anyone elighten me about this?

Finally, thanks Todd for your comments and your check of BARR. I had to grin at your happy but restrained reaction to these earnings when compared with your euphoria at the Q4 earnings. :)

Congrats to all longs. THQI remains my largest holding, and I'll be looking to buy more in the weeks to come.
