>>News flash, ' Today, Coca Cola's stock surged, after it announced it would start to sell, its Coke on the Internet'(snip) <<

As funny as that sounds, if you buy into the current mania, ecommerce is the wave of the future and assuming people are still going to buy the same amount of goods that can only mean one thing:. Traditional (storefront) retailers are going to get slaughtered. There are only so many consumer dollars to complete for.

Now I don't subscribe to that view, just playing devils advocate. My take is that as soon as ecommerce becomes a threat to the big chain's bottom line (witness Amazon vs B&N vs Crown) they will jump into the the net ring in a big way (they have the capital to do so). I don't buy the argument that you have to be first to win this race, its still quite early. A national tv advertising campaign can buy a lot of www site name recognition in a hurry and when it comes to a price war, those with the deepest pockets do quite well.

HJM, you joke about Office Depot selling over the 'net. That's part of what's so funny about stocks like KTEL - many, many huge companies are already selling their goods on the 'net, so these companies announcing *plans* to do the same are really late to the dance.

BTW, the MARG CEO was on Squawk Box this morning and Cramer asked him if he was going to file a 144 and sell some of his stock into the run-up. He said yes.
