Novell's Awards Are Already Stacking Up in 1998

It's always gratifying to Novell when independent,
objective reviewers such as technical publications
and trade show judges honor the company with
awards and accolades. It shows Novell's
commitment to delivering the best possible products
and services.

Novell's perennial dominance of these industry
honors demonstrates a long history of technical
innovation and quality products. And although 1998
is only a few months old, Novell is already racking
up so many awards from magazines and
organizations that the total could surpass last year's
banner year.

In 1997, Novell products captured 27 different
honors, including these highlights:

intraNetWare: Server Operating System
Product of the Year from Network Magazine
GroupWise: World Class Award from Network
World
ManageWise: Systems Management Product
of the Year from Network Magazine
Novell Directory Services (NDS): Best
Directory Service by LAN Times
Novell Technical Support: Rated best in
channel support by Network VAR

In addition, Network Computing handed out
"Well-Connected Awards" to intraNetWare,
GroupWise, and NDS.

Following are some highlights of Novell's accolades
and awards for 1998.

Network Magazine Hall of Fame

In March, Network Magazine inducted Novell into its
newly inaugurated Hall of Fame, which honors
companies that have won ten or more Product of the
Year Awards since 1990. With 13 such awards,
Novell ties Cisco Systems as the most-honored
companies, followed by Hewlett-Packard, IBM/Lotus,
and Network Associates each with 10.

"When companies return to the winner's circle again
and again," wrote Alan Zeichick, Network Magazine's
editor-in-chief, "there's a clear pattern of excellence.
We are delighted to induct five exceptional
companies into our new Hall of Fame, telling our
readers-and the world-that these organizations
not only create outstanding products and service,
but do so again and again."

NetWare / intraNetWare

NetWare, Novell's flagship intranet platform and network operating system, continues to
win major accolades with its version 4.11. The latest: Networking Solutions magazine has
honored NetWare with its Product of the Year Award in the Network Operating System
category. In bestowing the honor, the magazine highlighted Novell's directory, security,
and expansion features and the large number of third-party products that support NetWare
4.11. Ultimately, the magazine writes, "Novell's integration of Windows NT with NDS for
NT makes it a clear winner for managing the heterogeneous enterprise."

Novell Directory Services

NDS, the industry-leading global directory that won five major honors in 1997, is leading
the way again in 1998. Its first major honor is Network Magazine's Product of the Year
Award in the Directory Services category. The magazine described NDS as "a mature,
widely available, distributed directory service that has a global, all-encompassing view of
the network," and especially recognized Novell's new product NDS for NT, which allows
NDS to manage Windows NT domains.

NDS for NT was also named Innovation of the Year in the Networking category by the
German publication PC Professional. The award was announced at CeBit '98 and will
appear in the May issue of the magazine.
