My QCP-820 had the problem.
The sales dude at Bell Atlantic had a very intimate knowledge of the problem and explained it to me in detail. I believe this is the biggest hit to earnings, because it meant production delays and replacements for defective phones.
The phones in question according to the BA salesman were the first generation QCP-820 I would guess that would include all of the phones with the same connection plate.
The phone that I returned was a QCP-820 generation 1 the replacement was a generation 5, so the phone has had 5 revs in the past 6 months. Look for other problems to crop up beside the plate.
Without this problem I am guessing the quarter would have been much better and the onetime gains were used to offset the impact. It will probably continue into the next quarter as people return their phones, but production problems should be over for this problem.
Of course the question is are the growing pains and production problems over for QCOM. Will they be able to produce a high quality high profit product in the future?
Dan D.

Dave:

You seem to think that this Q phone will be a copy of the last one. It's not. It is a dual mode 800MHz phone. This means it would be sold to people like Airtouch and it has both AMPS and CDMA.
