I placed two day trades with Datek this morning. Market orders that I needed to watch every second. After placing the orders, I checked to see what price they filled at. Checking "open orders" revealed no open orders. Checked my portfolio, no additions. Checked daily status. No activity. Yet "messages" showed the orders clearly were placed. Nothing like placing an order and have it go completely beyond your control. No way to cancel. Helpless. At the mercy of the market gods.

Both orders filled 15 minutes later at prices far worse than where I placed them. One order for 500 shares filled at 100 shares. Lovely. Fortunately, by sheer luck I still made money on the trades, although far less than I should have. My complaint to Datek is in the mail requesting an adjustment. Might no get it, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
