Thanks all -- I like the suggestion of velcro, just because it seems so audacious to compare the transition from polytheism to monotheism to the adoption of velcro. But although many of the suggestions were excellent, the example of the automobile is, I think, the most effective. Students will be able to see clearly how something that, at first, was largely an improvement upon the horse, has transformed absolutely every aspect of our lives in the course of less than a century -- very much like the acceptance of Allah in 7th century Arabia.

Now I'm off to teach. Hope Cymer will be back +2 3/8 (or more!) when I return.

By the way, for the person who asked earlier how come the shorts were not covering. Many on this list know why. Why didn't we sell at 30, and then buy back twice as much at 15? Greed and ignorance -- yes -- but also because we knew that in the long run the dip wouldn't truly erase our profits. The shorts are greedy and ignorant too, but they are also wrong, wrong, wrong!
