Answer the question: what is innovative or creative about Java? Or at least, what do you find innovative or creative about Java?

Netscape did innovate the browser. While they may not have created the first one, they are responsible for most of the features we take for granted (like frames).

I will actually bend and say Netscape did innovate the browser. I still don't think that MS has hindered that innovation in any way. In fact, isn't the DOJ trying to stop MS from innovating (browser/OS integration)?
