Please note that Cyrix is already selling this chip. It's called the MediaGX and is in all the $500 multimedia systems. Intel has evidently been slow to realize the growth of the sub-$1000 market -- if you make it cheap enough people won't realize that it's not expandable and that you get what you pay for.

"In Intel's conference call the company stated that it plans to integrate auxiliary chips for handling graphics (and logics) functions onto one piece of silicon by next year, obviously making the investors in several graphics-related chip companies nervous. These statements began the 3Dfx slide yesterday and it grew today."

This is exaclty the kind of news, which caused 3com to fall from the 80s to the 30s one or two years ago. Intel claimed to integrate networking capabilities into their chips but until now they didn't.
