No, so thanks for the post. Doesn't surprise me.

I don't think its a reflection on the category as much as
an opps for Sybase.

I've felt for some time that IFMX should be trading below
Oracle but above Sybase. I think this will now happen.

What is strange is that Sybase jumbed to 10 today!! Must have
been before the news.

I really worry about them now. The really big problem was the drop in license revenue. What is even more of a problem for them is that the engine license revenue is a smaller portion of all licenses for them than more IFMX (Sybase sells more middleware and all the software from the Powersoft division). I emphasize this because I believe that engine license sales are the best predictive factor for a DBMS company's future prospect.

They blamed the problems in Q4 primarily on the Japanese problem, but this is a lot worse than they indicated after Q4. If they do not have immediate turnaround prospects, I would be expecting another round of layoffs.

I just hope that some of the same market factors are not working on IFMX. The key for IFMX having an acceptable quarter is to have around $100M in licenses.
