You know, several years ago I read that Manitoba Hydro sold 400 million dollars of hydrogen to Japan, in a small article in the back of the Victoria Times Colonist. They didn't get it from fossil fuels. They got it from solar energy converted into the kinetic energy of moving water by the earth's weather system. Does this make Canada the OPEC of the 20th century eventually? Why not. I've seen a "fuel cell" powering a 6 volt light bulb, with my own eyes, at the University of Victoria - the unreknowned saltwater battery. It was simply an Israeli made plastic membrane with fresh and salt water on either side of it, in a mazelike plastic tub. The difference in osmotic pressure created ionic flow across the membrane, and a small current.

Don't get carried away about the "fundamental difficulties" with hydrogen. Hydrogen is everywhere. The physics and chemistry of its oxidation accross a membrane are there. Let the mass production kick in. I call the Ballard naysayers "the MEN FROM ENIAC" - mainframes will always rule. Don't bet on it.

And don't forget the severe illiquidity in this stock. Most of it is held by the "big boys". The available float for trading is very thin, as evidenced by the volatile action. Shorting Ballard is playing with fire. Ballard could be worth zero or it could be worth 1000/share in 20 years.

Cheers.
