Rosemary, the way it works on NASDAQ is that most transactions are between two market makers representing two customers. This gives you 2 prints for the same shares traded. If both sides of the trade occurred
with the same market maker you would only get one count; and I can give you situations where you get more than double counting.

On the NYSE you only get one count. Therefore volume should be about cut in half.
