I thought that I understood Intel's strategy in 3D graphics chips. They could use their size and name to capture a big chunk of the low end market. They would never lead the high end market since they prefer their customers to upgrade to a new cpu rather than a $30 chip.

Now I am not so sure. If they incorporated the latest 3D graphics hardware directly on their cpu, it would give people plenty of incentive to upgrade their cpu. The conference call supports this strategy.

Could anything prevent Intel from doing this? Patents?

What was the story on MMX?
